A Journey into Gestures, Customs, and Cultural Riches of Turkey
Gestures in Turks are very special and specific.
When the Turks explain to you how big something is, the left hand turned palm upwards and slightly bent at the elbow, “cross-sectioned” with the right, thus demonstrating the size of what is in question.
When they turn their palms up and put all their fingers together by moving them back and forth, they let them know that something is delicious, beautiful and they really like it.
Doubt in Turkey is expressed by a slight shake of the head, which in our “body language” would be interpreted as if something were being rejected.
What is the same in our country, and which we have received from the Turks, and turkish customs are very interesting, is knocking on wood when talking about something beautiful, but the Turks necessarily retreat by the ear before that.
Turkish folk customs are of great importance to all inhabitants of Turkey and represent the essence of national identity, but also religion. The main foundation on which Turkish culture rests is actually Islam and that is why all beliefs in Turkey are so strong and significant.
When you find yourself in Turkey, it is certain that you will have the opportunity to meet with numerous customs and beliefs, and the goal of every trip, even if it is a holiday, where people mostly go for rest and fun, is to get to know the culture of a particular country and its people.
